If I remember correctly, all ELC's that we have taken on this year start losing years right away even if the player isn't burning them in real life.
This means that we will all have our prospects needing their first extension exactly 3 years from now. For most people, that's 10 contract extensions in 2018.

I think the burning a year is still something being discussed but would put go in effect this year.
All of those prospects will be RFA's so you have the opportunity to match so no issues or worries.

I'm not sure how this works long term. Someone with a weak farm can just poach a few top prospects by offering a couple million. If I match, my farm is then over cap and I need to lose some of my lesser prospects. I'd like to see us mirror NHL rules: after 10 GP, the contract starts burning.

That's fine and all but even with the new rule and the size of our minors you are still going to get players "poached" by other teams.
