The Edmonton Oilers are excited to announce a trade:
NYI Receives: 15th Round Expansion Pick D. Pouliot - $863,3000 (16-17) RFA
EDM Receives: 12th Round Expansion Pick NYI 1st Round Pick (2016) CHI 1st Round Pick (2016)
The Oilers initially approached the Islanders in regards to their first round picks, and the first name thrown back was Pouliot. We picked Pouliot high in the draft because he is a very talented, high prospect player. We knew if he was to be included in the trade talks that it would come with a high asking price, and we feel the 2 firsts and moving up in the expansion draft will suffice. We would like to thank Islanders for the tortuous trade talks and wish Pouliot all the best in NYI.
Islanders to confirm.

I accept. Thanks to Oilers for waiting for me to make up my mind on the deal, this trade took quite a bit of time to work out. I love Pouliot's offensive potential, and given the fact that I had 4 2016 firsts, trading two of is expandable. IMO my defense is now set for the future, being led by Pouliot and DeAngelo. Good like this year Edmonton.

Risky trade, since I think Pouliot won't be as good as many think he can be, I can be wrong tho (back in 07-08 I was adamant that Ty Wishart would be a star in this league). I think NYI pays a heavy price, but he knows what he's doing.
Approved (2-0)

I'm not very high on pouliot personally, but that's not a reason to disapprove a trade.

Sorry fellas but I'm going to have to stand in an opposite corner on this.
I love Pouliot. Desperately wanted him in a PK package that the Leafs received. I see him as a top notch #2/3 with an exquisite skill set excelling in offensive matters. He's certainly cerebral enough ( "hockey iq and vision" ) that he already thinks the game at the top level. He'll never be a defensive acumen but as long as he'll effectively tie people up he'll do alright. From my limited viewings of him, aside from strength which is an issue for most prospects, the thing that bothers me the most is his inability to effectively use his leverage when in close quarters.
I just feel that the price of two 1st plus moving up in the expansion draft is too steep for someone that only has 34 games under his belt. Regardless of his bright potential he's still untried at this level and remains to be seen how and when he'll fulfill his potential. Now if the swap of the expansion rounds were in reverse, I'd have no issues with this.
