Hey guys, I was just wondering about Centers. We have 4 Centers on each team. And I was wondering if we could give any points to faceoffs. Since its a pretty important thing in real games when the Bruins or Blackhawks dominate the faceoffs and it helps win games. So I wondering if anyone else wanted to give points to the 4 centers for faceoff wins. It doesn't have to be crazy points. but, I think some little boost would be a nice thing to reward the guys that kick butt in the faceoff circle every game.
If no one else wants to, I understand. Just thought I'd throw my .2 cents out there.

Jeremy, good idea.
I've never been apart of a league that rewards points for faceoffs and but always would liked to have added that category.
I will say though that the amount of points awarded for a faceoff won should be pretty minimal (like .1 points). My reasoning is that you don't want centers to become to much of a dominant position over the other positions.

My one concern is teams having a guy who plays center primarily in real life, yet is eligible for another position on fantrax (ie. C/RW, C/LW, or C/RW/LW) and a savy GM puts this guy on one of their wing slots to get more face-off points. Is there a way to make fantrax only record faceoffs from guys who are starting as Centers?
Anyway, I don't have a problem with adding a minimal amount like Canes said above (.1 fpts). I do believe we should figure this out before the draft though, as it could easily affect someones draft strategy.

I agree with Andrew, that this is something that could effect how people draft so it needs to be decided on by draft time.
I do believe you can set the scoring category to just the Center position but I'm not 100% sure. For example in one league I was in defenseman got extra points for goals. I just looked and you can set a certain scoring category by a certain position.

Thanks for the suggestion Jeremy.
This thread is now open for voting. Here is the rule change:
Centres (and only players put in the centre position in your lineup) are scored on their faceoff performance:
Rule will be changed when 51% of GMs approve rule change.

I am not sold on 0.1ftp, and while we're at it, 0.5+/- seems steep (+4 as valuable as 2 assists?) however in theory I like it as a category. Approve (10-0).
On the topic of weird stats, I am in a league that measure TOI. Seems silly right? It actually adds a ton of value to D and star players that normally might be hidden by the stats. A guy like Kesler or Pietrangelo suddenly are super valuable. It's bizarre.

That is definitely interesting Dan I have never seen TOI measured as a fantasy stat before. How are points awarded for the TOI category?

That is definitely interesting Dan I have never seen TOI measured as a fantasy stat before. How are points awarded for the TOI category? It's a Head to Head league, so winner takes the category. It's surprisingly popular among the GM's. Would be too difficult to assign value to in our league format.

Oh ok. I can understand how it is done in that aspect.

I'm in a league where TOI matters and it really does make a difference. I'm a fan of it.

You two (or one of you) should open a thread up and suggest it! I've never been apart of one with that as a category, but I'm certainly open to seeing what the league thinks and put it to a vote.

Unless there's something I'm missing (and that's fairly possible, english is my second language lol), I don't feel like adding TOI in this league is useful. There are 24 teams and not everybody is going to play 25-30 mins/game.
Like I said, I'm probably missing something.

Makes you want to pick players who play a lot of minutes. Suter suddenly has immense value under this format. I would say if this is going to be a rule it has to become a rule fast or else some GM's will feel cheated as far as their draft strategy goes

I would say if this is going to be a rule it has to become a rule fast or else some GM's will feel cheated as far as their draft strategy goes That's my concern. However, the only way a rule is 'approved' is if over 50% of the league approves it. In other words, 13 teams would need to approve this bad boy for it to be implemented. So if GM's felt cheated in regards to their draft strategy then they could simply vote against it. IMO this rule seems kinda pointless. Granted, I've never played with this rule so I don't have an informed opinion. It certainly raises the value of certain guys (I'm looking at you, Pietrangelo!), and I suppose in the real NHL forwards who can log +19 minutes are coveted, while the same can be said with D -- but with more minutes obviously. I guess in retrospect I'm 100% on the fence with this one.

I'm not going to propose it simply because I feel like it's too late. We're almost 5 rounds deep and this is something I feel we should have had implemented from the start. I'm a fan of the rule but would pass because we've already started the draft.
